Best of the Decade: Books

10. Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation.
More like a funny and educational approach to punctuation that will stay with you.

09. Stargirl
It's a young adult book, and I read it in my early 20's, and it was just what I needed at the time. It's this generation's Weetzie Bat.

08. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
A relatable and beautiful story for me and Diaz does an amazing job using the English language to charm you.
07. The People of Paper
Inventive, fascinating, and full of mythical imagery you can feel rather than visualize.

06. House of Leaves
I made the mistake of checking this out at the library and I can't wait to own it.

05. Quiet, Please
No, not because I've kissed the author, but because it's from the POV of a librarian that's funny, smart, and sarcastic with dark humor.

04. Me Talk Pretty One Day
Pronunciation was difficult with a language barrier growing up, but I can relate to this funny book about growing up, a lovable dysfunctional family and being different.

03. On The Road- The Original Scrolls
This is one of my favorite books of all time, and in the raw writing of Mr. Kerouac himself makes the book more powerful.

02. In Defense of Food
This is the scariest book I have ever read. Horror books are fiction, and they can be read and forgotten about, but a book exposing the food industry- horrific.

01. The Glass Castle
In the last ten years, growing up with alcoholism was a fact I couldn't get away from. This book I can relate to- it's funny, tragic, hopeful, and each page copes with grace and courage rather than pity.
Hoorah to Ms. Walls for writing my favorite book of the decade.

my husband's list is here if you are looking for new books to read for your new decade.

07. District 9
06. Pan's Labyrinth

05. The Baxter
04. Once
03. Harry Potter
All of the series.

02. The Lord of the Rings
All of the series.

01. The Royal Tenenbaums
what are yours?

Best of the Decade: Music

Do you really think I would choose just 10 albums in one decade? Ridic. This is a tough one for me. I can't *not* choose just ten albums from ten years ago.

Staring at the screen for one hour, I decided to choose the albums that have changed my life, yes, in some way.
Whether I cried myself to sleep to Upward Over the Mountain on repeat because I missed my parent, or listening to The Fold Out makes me dance like no one is watching, each album was a favorite and helped me connect, reflect, cope, relate, succeed, cry, dance, rejoice and effect who I am. I wish I had a last.fm account years earlier to scrobble what I loved to listen to. I believe this is what it would look like...

These were the albums that made my last decade memorable. Here's to another decade of great music.

UPDATE: I can't believe I forgot the Cribs' Men's Needs, Women's Need's, Whatever, and Saturday Looks Good to Me All your Summer Songs. Don't ever have me do favorites. The list will go on forever.

The Little Prince Pop-Up Book

My friend S gave me the book, The Little Prince, awhile back. Even though I felt silly reading a kids book, it was everything I want in a good book- it was whimsical, fun, and took me away to another place. It's such an easy read, I recommend it. For Christmas, Scott surprised me with the pop-up book. I think they did a great job with the format and so great to collect.
