Best of the Decade: Books

10. Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation.
More like a funny and educational approach to punctuation that will stay with you.

09. Stargirl
It's a young adult book, and I read it in my early 20's, and it was just what I needed at the time. It's this generation's Weetzie Bat.

08. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
A relatable and beautiful story for me and Diaz does an amazing job using the English language to charm you.
07. The People of Paper
Inventive, fascinating, and full of mythical imagery you can feel rather than visualize.

06. House of Leaves
I made the mistake of checking this out at the library and I can't wait to own it.

05. Quiet, Please
No, not because I've kissed the author, but because it's from the POV of a librarian that's funny, smart, and sarcastic with dark humor.

04. Me Talk Pretty One Day
Pronunciation was difficult with a language barrier growing up, but I can relate to this funny book about growing up, a lovable dysfunctional family and being different.

03. On The Road- The Original Scrolls
This is one of my favorite books of all time, and in the raw writing of Mr. Kerouac himself makes the book more powerful.

02. In Defense of Food
This is the scariest book I have ever read. Horror books are fiction, and they can be read and forgotten about, but a book exposing the food industry- horrific.

01. The Glass Castle
In the last ten years, growing up with alcoholism was a fact I couldn't get away from. This book I can relate to- it's funny, tragic, hopeful, and each page copes with grace and courage rather than pity.
Hoorah to Ms. Walls for writing my favorite book of the decade.

my husband's list is here if you are looking for new books to read for your new decade.

That's so funny your husband is a librarian! I was one too (well, ish. I worked in the public library, but no MLS)!

I've only read Stargirl and Eats, Shoots and Leaves - but both are great. I'll have to check out your other suggestions.

One of my best friends has loved stargirl since forever. That's the first thing I remember learning about her from when we met our freshman year in high school. I haven't read it, but maybe I'll make it a part of my new years resolution!

Eats Shoots and Leaves is hilarious. I love me some good grammar. (I feel like that sentence is kind of ironic...)

The original scrolls of Jack Kerouac's On the Road are magnificent. Kerouac is one of my absolute favourites. I read 'the scrolls' last summer and I remember the contrast between the lazy afternoon around me and the urgence of creation on the page. Pure genius.

Uh oh, I've only read about half of these! :) Haha, I think "because I've kissed the author" is a valid reason to put a book on a list of bests!!
