OC parents need to get over themselves. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is an important piece of American literature and because one paragraph the conservative parents are not in agreement with, they want it banned. This is Maya Angelou's story and sadly, because she didn't grow up in their sheltered homes and gated communities, they think this attested biography can't be shared. I hope my children experience life-changing books, but if this is allowed, they most likely won't be able to.
Watch the story here. It made me a little sick to my stomach.

My ONLY dislike about living in the OC?...so many conservatives! lol jk - ehh kind of. It's so important to read, hear and experience other peoples lives backgrounds and culture. It's shocking when people are so self absorbed.
Banned?
When will people realize that you shouldn't prevent real life experiences from being shared. That's how you learn.
It's not porn -its a life story.
Sheesh!
I don't know what the book's about, but it sounds a bit ridic to ban it.
god americans are crazy over banning books! i don't think that goes on in england as much (or maybe i just don't hear about it) i think we're all too lazy to complain haha
Banned? Is it possible? 2009 people!
This is so irritating!!!!
people are so stupid. this book is a wonderful read, its sad and powerful, and its somebody's experience. How can they object to someones painful memoirs?
She was raped, how inconsidereate to deem her sorrow and trauma as an intenion to write "pornagaphically"
uneducated, sheltred, self righteous pigs.
The Shit kids/teens watch on tv is ten time worse!
These eople need to start living in the 21st century. Book banning is illegal (have they ever heard of freedom of speech?), and to attempt to ban this particular book is downright offensive. This crazy conservative minority is just too much for me. Their ignorance makes me downright angry.
it's 2009! why are we still even talking about banning books?!
This book is so wonderful, I recently read it for the first time.
Banning it because she described being raped as a kid makes me so upset. What the hell, people. :(
"i'll be on this like a hen on a wet worm." oh you will, will you? this shit pisses me off and normally i try not curse in comments but these people are f&$% idiots.
the woman stated that it was uncomfortable to read about the rape scene? YOU THINK! it's supposed to be.
are these people out of their minds? do they know the statistics on molestation? do they really think they're protecting children by banning this book? why don't they spend their effort actually HELPING children that ARE being abused instead of censoring important literature.
now you have me all worked up.
wow that's stupid.
it makes me sick and embarrassed to have orange county the place that i will always call home.
ohmy. I don't evevn have words.
disgusting.
Wowzers! I am so humiliated for those ignorant people. But, I might be even sadder that so few kids have checked that book out. It's a beautiful read!
